ATLANTA - (July 5, 2024) – Pond, an industry leader in engineering, architecture, planning and construction management services, has been awarded a contract to provide design, bidding, and construction oversight services for the Athens Street corridor in Gainesville, Georgia.

Under the contract, Pond will design an improved, connected pedestrian network with ADA-compliant sidewalks, ramps, and street and railroad crossings along Athens Street from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Athens Highway/U.S. Hwy 129-South. 

Other public infrastructure improvements include stormwater and streetscape design including street trees, landscaping and green infrastructure, and pedestrian lighting.

This project builds off the 2022 Athens Street-129 South Corridor Master Plan which outlines a stakeholder-driven vision to enhance Athens Street, improve pedestrian safety, and create green spaces and gathering areas along the corridor. This project is a joint effort between the City of Gainesville and Hall County to revive the Athens Street Corridor through their respective Improving Neighborhood Outcomes in Disproportionally Impacted Community grant.

Pond has completed numerous projects for the City of Gainesville including comprehensive transportation plans, corridor studies, connector improvements, and traffic calming reviews.
