Construction Management Services for Everglades Hurricane Irma Projects
The National Park Service (NPS) enlisted Pond for construction management services to oversee extensive repairs at hurricane-damaged sites in Florida's Everglades National Park. We managed projects across three districts: Flamingo, Everglades City, and Shark Valley. We deployed three construction management teams and established an office within the park to support operations.
Pond's oversight included: the demolition of storm-damaged housing, construction of new housing units, roof replacement and building hardening, window replacement, interior, exterior, and electrical repairs, hardening existing buildings to current codes, dock and pier replacements, boat lift installations, site improvements, utility upgrades, parking/road work, and the construction of a new visitor's center
Pond's team comprised a lead construction manager, six on-site inspectors, a documents control coordinator, a schedule management specialist, a cost estimator, and various engineering support. All staff held OSHA 30 certification and were trained in natural resource protection. We actively participated in conference calls with the NPS Contracting Officer and stakeholders, aiding in dispute resolution. We meticulously reviewed specifications, technical, and informational submissions to ensure contractor compliance. We prepared schedule review checklists, updated worksheets, and logs, tracked changes and provided monthly reports.
We drafted scoping documents and government cost estimates for potential modifications, reviewed contractor proposals, requests for equitable adjustment, and claims, providing written analyses for NPS review. Daily inspections were conducted to document progress, milestones, and deficiencies, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
