With a runway extension and partial parallel taxiway under construction, the Burke County Board of Commissioners requested that Pond prepare plans and specifications to construct the remainder of the full-length parallel taxiway, a length of 3,400 feet.
The Georgia Department of Transportation had allocated additional funding, and a demanding six-week design schedule was set. The project scope included extending the partial parallel taxiway 3,400 feet, associated edge lighting, signage, and markings, and improving the site drainage.
The challenge was incorporating the partial parallel taxiway under construction with the least sacrificial construction possible to reduce rework and construction costs. Pond met both the design schedule and found the critical path to the success of both projects.
