Amazon turned to Pond to provide planning, programming, and detailed design for a new 222,000-square-foot, fast-moving “last mile” e-commerce consumer goods shipping and distribution center in Forest Park, Georgia. Traffic patterns, interior layouts, and efficiencies of driver loading are critical features of this final sorting and loading facility. Within the 52 acres, design elements include a dual-side loading system with six loading sections. The expansive parking area is strategically designed to cater to diverse vehicle needs to accommodate 1,132 van spaces, 423 auto spaces, 160 dedicated to van staging, 160 designated to van loading, and 15 docks for trailer truck loading. In total, the facility boasts an impressive 1,890 parking spaces. Additionally, the facility can accommodate the charging needs of more than 750 electrical vans, showcasing its commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge technology. Pond is a preferred vendor of Amazon and has provided design services for over 1.9 million square feet of Amazon’s facilities throughout the eastern United States.
With over 25 projects with Amazon, Pond has developed a team of professionals who understand the specialized nature of each product storage and distribution solution type and recognize logistics’ vital role in our daily lives. Using Pond’s fast-track delivery method, Pond provided site and building concepts and planning that delivered the earliest possible permitting approval for Amazon’s “Extra-Large Last Mile” project. Pond worked closely with the civil engineer for this site, where coordination between the site layout, electrical layout, and building layout was essential to the success of this project. The Pond team drove communications with the local permit office to secure all necessary permits to deliver the permit drawings within four weeks.
